A REAL BFF OVERVIEW

Week1: Choosing Your Friends
Bible: 2 Corinthians 6:14-15; Proverbs 13:20-21; Luke 15:1-7; 1 Corinthians 15:33
Bottom Line: A real BFF is someone who loves God as much as you do.
What’s That to Me? To students, friends are all-important—but even more important than having friends is choosing good friends. For students, it can be confusing to know what to look for in a real friend. And as God tells us, it’s important to choose carefully.

Week 2: Popularity and Fitting in With the World
Bible: Romans 2:11; Luke 9:25; Proverbs 16:18; Luke 14: 7-14
Bottom Line: A real BFF lives for God, not the world.
What’s That to Me? Students often believe that making friends mean they must work to fit in. Popularity lures them into acting differently and doing things they might not otherwise do. It’s important for students to learn that God doesn’t call us to fit in with the general population—he wants us to stand out for him!

Week 3: Your Community
Bible: Ecclesiastes 4:9:12; Acts 2:42-47; Hebrews 10:24-25
Bottom Line: A real BFF isn’t just one person; it’s also a community of believers.
What’s That to Me? Students may be so focused on having that one BFF that they don’t realize it’s important to surround ourselves with a community of BFFs. Being in a community means we have support, love, and friendship encircling us.

Week 4: Friends Help Friends Through Suffering
Bible: 1 Corinthians 15:3; 1 Peter 5:10; Romans 5:3-5; Proverbs 18:24; John 15:13
Bottom Line: A real BFF will suffer with you like Jesus did.
What’s That to Me? This lesson is key to help students understand that real friends stick with them when times get hard. They don’t only show up when things are fine. And, real friends are willing to suffer with and for their friends, just as Jesus suffered for us on the cross.
